22日，国家主席习近平就中美两国构建中美新型大国关系（a new model of major-country relationship between China and the United States）提出四点建议（four-point proposal）。
他指出，中美两国要坚持构建中美新型大国关系的正确方向，正确判断彼此战略意图（read each other's strategic intentions correctly），坚定不移推进合作共赢（advance win-win cooperation），妥善有效管控分歧（manage their differences properly），广泛培植人民友谊（cultivating extensive friendship among people of the two nations），共同开创中美更加美好的未来。
习近平还强调，发展依然是当代中国第一要务（most urgent priority）。中国经济将保持平稳较快发展。我们将统筹稳增长（coordinated development）、促改革、调结构（promote structural adjustment）、惠民生（improve people's well-being）、防风险（forestall risks），促进经济增长保持中高速水平（keeping its economic growth at a medium-high level）。中国坚持改革开放（reform and opening up），坚持依法治国（the rule of law），坚持走和平发展（peaceful development）道路，愿同各国一道，构建以合作共赢为核心的新型国际关系。
