11月13日，圆明园马首铜像捐赠仪式在中国国家博物馆（National Museum of China）举行，赌王何鸿燊女儿何超琼代表何氏家族将马首铜像（horse-head bronze statue）正式捐赠国家文物局（National Cultural Heritage Administration）。
这已是何鸿燊（98-year-old collector and Hong Kong-Macao business magnate Stanley Ho Hung-sun）向祖国捐赠的第二个兽首。2003年赌王以600万港币买下猪首捐赠国家，2007年他又以6910万港币拍得马首。
马首铜像是清代圆明园海晏堂（Hall of National Peace）外十二生肖兽首喷泉主要构件之一，由意大利人郎世宁（Giuseppe Castiglione）设计，融合了东西方艺术理念和设计风格，清乾隆年间（during the reign of the Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty）由宫廷匠师精工制作，历百年风雨而不生锈蚀。
1860年，英法联军侵入北京（the marauding Anglo-French Allied Forces），圆明园惨遭劫掠焚毁（plundered/looted and burned），很多国宝（national treasures）及十二尊生肖兽首铜像（the bronze statues in the form of 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs）一起流失海外，马首铜像被掠夺藏于法国。目前，龙蛇羊鸡狗5尊兽首仍流落在外。
此次被捐赠的马首将作为国家成立70年（The 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China）和澳门回归20年（The 20th Anniversary of Macao's Return to China）的献礼。此次回归后，马首铜像将与牛、猴、虎、猪、鼠、兔六尊兽首共同在国博回归之路展览展出。
通过外交协调（diplomatic coordination）、刑事侦查（criminal investigation）、协商谈判（negotiation）、捐赠（donation）等多种方式的综合运用，新中国成立后已有300余批次、15万件流失文物回归。但，仍有1000万件左右文物流失海外。愿每一件流失文物都能早日回家！
