深入解读
好莱坞著名电影《致命魔术》（ The Prestige ）讲述了两个超级魔术师明争暗斗的故事。很多观众对该片的英文名字不理解。英语单词 prestige 在字典中是“声望”的意思，跟魔术到底有什么关系呢？
其实，这个单词的本意就是魔术表演中的招数、特技的意思。它源自 praestringere ，由 prae （ pre ，在……前面）+ stringere （捆绑），字面意思就是“在人面前假装把自己捆绑起来”。
电影《致命魔术》对 prestige 的内涵进行了深刻阐述：每一次魔术表演包括三个步骤。第一步叫做 pledge ，魔术师展示一些真实的、平常的物品或场景，并请观众检验；第二步叫做 turn ，魔术师利用这些平常的物品做出不寻常的事情，如使东西消失，但这还不足以使观众鼓掌。因此优秀的魔术还需要第三步，这就是 prestige ，这也是最重要的一步。魔术师要在这一步做出匪夷所思的事情，如把消失的东西以意想不到的方式再次带回到人们面前，从而博得观众的惊奇与赞叹。
由此可见， prestige 的本意是指高超的魔术师所创造出的令人匪夷所思、叹为观止的幻觉，这种幻觉能使观众如痴如醉，从而对观众产生巨大的影响力，对魔术师五体投地、敬若神明。因此 prestige 一词也就衍生出“影响力、声望”的含义。
