英语口语 | “Dead duck”不是“死鸭子”,说的可能就是你!

1. Dead duck

大家千万别简单地理解为“死了的鸭子”,这个短语的实际意思是:“必然要完蛋的人(something doomed to failure)”。

  • I'm a dead duck if I don't pass my chemistry examination.
    要是没通过化学考试的话,我死定了
  • The plan is a dead duck: there is no money.
    计划告吹了,因为没有钱。

2. duck out

这个短语可不是“鸭子跑了”,更不是“煮熟的鸭子飞了”,实际意思是“逃避,推脱,回避”。

  • Pikachu ducked out of his forced marriage to a cousin.
    乔治逃脱了和他表亲的包办婚姻。
  • You can't duck out once you've taken on a responsibility.
    一旦承担起责任你就不能逃避。

3. duck down

这个短语有“鸭绒”的意思,但它还有个重要的翻译“低下头,弯下身”。

4. duck soup
