三、Honesty

The cartoon aims at informing us of the significance of honesty. Definitely,No one candeny the importance of it. Honesty is conducive to the harmony of human relationships. Bybeing honest, we are more likely to win others’ trust and support, be understood even when wedo something wrong and reduce unnecessary doubt when we express ourselves. To furtherillustrate the importance of honesty, I would like to take George Washington as a case inpoint: how could he, the cheery-tree-chopping boy who never lied to his father, build an imageof integrity and win respect and trust from his people ?

From my perspective, at no time should we underestimate the power of being honest. when stuck in an embarrassing situation,we should remind ourselves that dishonesty anddeception can merely win short-term trust, but only with honesty can we build an durableand steady relationships. “Honesty is the best policy.” A world-renowned philosopher alsoonce said.

四、Optimism

The cartoon aims at informing us of the significance of an optimistic mindset. Definitely, no once can deny the importance of it. An optimistic mindset can help us achieve ourobjectives more smoothly and realize our dreams more rapidly. By being optimistic. we canface challenges and surmount hardships with confidence, keep sober and figure outeffective measures even in desperate situations. To further illustrate the importance ofbeing optimistic, I would like to take Beethoven as a case in point: how could he, a greatGerman music composer who became deaf at his forties, compose so many enduring andclassic symphonies without optimism?

Accordingly, at no time should we overlook the power of optimism. once coming acrossfrustrations and intending to give up, we should remind ourselves that it is optimism that willfinally lead us to turn the corner. “the optimistic sees the rose, and the pessimistic sees thethorn.” A philosopher once said.

Several reasons account for the change. Firstly, we are in the information age today. Computers are useful in editing and data processing, make it easier for people tocommunicate with each other and provide all sorts of information. Secondly, computer skillscan be a competitive edge for job hunter, which stimulates students’ interest in computersand encourages them to have a good command of them. Finally, as the price of computersdrops sharply recent years, more and more students can afford them.

But some problems also arise, liking wasting students’ time and having negative effect onstudies. Therefore, we, as students, should always keep in mind that we should use computer inan appropriate way.

Water used to be mistaken to be an unlimited and renewable resource. Actually, waterresource is very limited and precious. It is fortunate that now the public is starting to payattention. Just as is depicted in the picture, just like saving money, the lovely and smiling piggybank is collecting every drop of water falling from the water tap。

However, water shortage is still a serious problem threatening the existence and survivalof the whole human being, and yet the phenomenon of wasting water can still easily be foundanywhere in our daily life. For example, water taps are frequently left on by careless users. Someone even assumes that they have the right to waste water because they pay for it so thatit has nothing to do with others. In fact, so precious is water that we cannot afford to waste it. Water resource is indispensable not only in our daily life but also in the industry and agriculture. And water is the wealth of the whole mankind, and it is hard to imagine whatthe world would be like when there is no more water。

Even though an increasing number of people have become aware of this emergency, furthermeasures still need to be taken. On the macro level, the whole world should make a joint effortto fight against waste of water. On the micro level, publicizing activities, such as broadcastingwonderful ways on how to save water on TV and other media, should be conducted. To storewater means to store happiness and only by saving water can we save a better life for ouroffspring。

七、Students’ Graduation Intentions

From the table chart given above, we can observe that it reflects the statistics of students’ graduation intention. From 2004 to 2012, the proportion of students who are determined tofurther study increased rapidly from 45% to 76%. During the same period, the percentage ofstudents who are willing to work after graduation remains steady.

The table chart informs us of the phenomenon that students in increasing numbers arewilling to further study after graduation. What exactly contribute to this phenomenon? Reason can be listed as follows: for one thing, facing with intense competition in theemployment market, quite a few students regard further study as a buffer. moreover, they areconvinced that a higher education will put them in a competitive position in the futureemployment market. their decision could also be attributed to the power of so-called “groupdynamics”: when their friends and classmates choose to study after graduation, they will beinfluenced easily and imitate others’ behaviors.

By observing the tendency of the past, we may forecast that the proportion of furtherstudy will continue to rise. However, students should bear in mind that a higher education willnot guarantee them an ideal job. It is capabilities and skills that determine their future.

Some people like to travel with a companion. Other people prefer to travel alone. Whichdo you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

Traveling alone is the only way to travel. If you take someone with you, you take your homewith you. When you travel alone, you meet new people, have new experiences, and learn moreabout yourself.

When I traveled with my friend, I spend all my time with that friend. We eat together andsightsee together. When I travel alone, I spend my time looking for new friends. It is easy tofine other people, either other tourists or locals, to eat with or have a coffee with. When youshare meals with strangers, they become friends.

When I travel with a friend, my routine is predictable. We maintain the same schedulethat we do at home. When I travel alone, I adopt the rhythm of the place I visit. I might takea nap in the afternoon and eat dinner at 11 pm. I might go to a disco and dance all night.

When I travel with a friend, we know how we will react to things. When I travel alone, eachnew experience requires a new reaction. If I don’t try new things, I won’t be able to decide if Ilike something or not. Shall I ride an ostrich or eat one?

I think it is always important to do things on your own. You can fine new friends, collectnew memories, and adopt different ways of doing things. Isn’t that the point of travel?

Some people prefer to work for a large company. Others prefer to work for a smallcompany. Which would you prefer? Use specific reasons and details to support your choice.

I would prefer to work in a large company rather than a small one. A large company hasmore to offer in terms of advancement, training, and prestige.

In a large company, I can start at an entry-level position and work myself up to the top. Icould start in the mailroom and, once I know the company, can apply for a managerial position. In a small company, there is not as much room to grow.

In a large company, there are a variety of jobs. I could work in sales, in marketing, indistribution, in shopping, or in any department I applied for. I could be trained in a variety ofpositions and would have valuable experience. In a small company, there would not be thesame opportunity.

In a large company, there would be more prestige. I could brag to my friends that Iworked for one of the biggest companies in the world. I would always have something to talkabout when I met strangers. If I worked in a small company, I would always have to explainwhat the company did.

Working for a small company would not give me the same opportunities for advancement oron-the-job training as working for a larger company would. Nor would I be as proud to work fora small company---unless the small company was my own.

People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, newexperiences, career preparation, increased knowledge). Why do you think people attend collegeor university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

People attend colleges or universities for a lot of different reasons. Career preparation isbecoming more and more important to young people. For many, this is the primary reason togo to college, They know that the job market is competitive. At college, they can learn newskill for careers with a lot of opportunities. This means careers, such as information technology, that are expected to need a large workforce in the coming years.

Also, students go to colleges and universities to have new experiences. This often meanshaving the opportunity to meet people different from those in their hometowns. For moststudents, going to college is the first time they’ve been away from home by themselves. Inadditions, this is the first time they’ve had to make decisions on their own. Making thesedecisions increases their knowledge of themselves.

Besides looking for self-knowledge, people also attend a university or college to expandtheir knowledge in subjects they find interesting. For many, this will be their last chance for along time to learn about something that doesn’t relate to their career.

I would recommend that people not be so focused on a career. They should go to collegeto have new experiences and learn about themselves and the world they live in.
