区别辨析boast、brag、crow与pride

这些动词均含有“自夸,吹嘘”之意。

boast : 普通用词,指对自己所做的事,自己的长处、财富以及家庭等的夸耀,常含言过其实的意味。

  • He didn't talk about his exam results in case people thought he was boasting.
    他没有谈论自己的考试成绩,以免让别人以为他在自我吹嘘。
  • Parents enjoy boasting about their children's achievements.
    父母喜欢夸耀子女所取得的成绩。
  • They boasted that they had never lost a single game.
    他们夸口说从来没有输过一场比赛。

brag : 非正式用词,其夸耀和吹嘘意味强于boast,到了过分夸大,有时令人讨厌的地步。

  • She's always bragging about how much money she earns.
    她老是吹嘘自己挣钱如何如何多。
  • They bragged that their team had never been beaten.
    他们夸耀说他们队从未输过。

crow : 多指大声吵嚷地吹嘘,夸耀自己做某事比他人做得好。

  • He's always crowing about his latest triumph.
    他老是吹嘘他最近取得的成功。

pride与boast的意义较接近,指炫耀、夸口,自鸣得意,常与反身代词连用。

  • She had always prided herself on her appearance.
    她总是对自己的外貌感到得意。
  • Smith prides himself on being able to organise his own life.
    史密斯对能够把自己的生活安排得井井有条感到很得意。
